Come On, Spring!!!
As much as I don’t normally mind Winter, I have to say that I am MORE THAN READY for ALOT of Spring-like temperatures!!! All of the snow from the Winter has started taking it’s toll on ALL of the animals because everything is still so wet and muddy and too cool to be outside much on most days.
One of the mares that I’ve got here that no one can get close to is limping slightly this morning. It’s undoubtedly because she has mud and manure and ice packed into her hooves, and last night was cool enough that whatever thawed and got soft yesterday during the day refroze last night, including what was soft and unfrozen in her hooves yesterday. At THIS point, there’s NOT much I can do for her, other than keep an eye on her and make sure it falls out of her hoof in the next day or so. If that doesn’t happen, it COULD be REAL interesting trying to get close enough to her to get a halter on her, and then getting her to trust me enough to get her foot off the ground to clean it out. Let’s just say that she’s got the woman who owns her (and some other people) scared to even go in her stall. I’m not scared to go in her stall, but I haven’t progressed far enough with her to be able to touch her…yet.
Needless to say, some Spring-like temperatures would help me DRASTICALLY in working with some of these horses….including Miss H.B., which is the one that has everyone else scared of her.
All I can say is…..Hurry up, Spring!!!!
Blessings!!!
