Another One…

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

I went to a funeral of a woman that I didn’t even know back in the last part of Thanksgiving, for the family.  I don’t know the family that well, but that has never stopped me before.  I know, in passing, 3 of the 5 kids, and the woman’s husband, and found out that some other people from the church are relatives too.  I figured that, just because I didn’t know the family that well at that point, they might take some comfort in knowing that it’s not just their closest friends that “care”.  Does that make sense?

Don’t ask me why I’m writing this.  I really have NO idea, other than that fact that funerals have been in the forefront of my thoughts this week, as we had a death in the family just after Christmas and her Memorial service was supposed to have been yesterday.  I’ve been wondering if we should have been there, but it was in another state, and would have taken $300 or $400 if we had driven probably.  Of course, with it being right after Christmas, money is a little tighter than normal.  And there are other reasons we didn’t go that I won’t list here tonight.  All in all, I guess the easiest way to put it is that it just didn’t work…us going, that is.

Then I found out yesterday from some ladies at the church that one of the older men from the church died the night before.  He was related to some of the people that were related to the woman that died back in November.  Again, this is a man that I didn’t know at all, except in passing.  I can’t even say that I have even ever talked to him.  But I know the family, so yes, I will be at the funeral tomorrow, just for moral support, if NOTHING else.

Mood is kind of off tonight.  Maybe it’s got something to do with knowing that the memorial service for our family member was yesterday, and not being sure if we did the right thing by not going?  Maybe it’s just because it’s been a long day?  A long week?  Who knows?  Maybe it’s because the weather today was nice, and the wind kicked up several hours ago, and now it’s turning colder again?  Yep, that sounds like the closest reason….colder weather…colder mood.  Sound logical?

Here’s hoping my mood lightens some with the dawning of a new day!!!  And that I can do some good somehow tomorrow!!!

God Bless You!!

Sales

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Allow me to rant and rave about something for a few moments, if you would please?

Have you noticed that when a store advertises a “sale“, that it’s NOT always a TRUE sale?  I have experienced this several times over the last few months.  I go into a store and see the sale advertisement, or a “sale” sticker for a particular item, so I pick it up.  ALOT of them I’ve noticed say something like “limit 2?.  Okay, in my mind, that means you are only allowed a maximum of 2, right?  Well, I get up to the check-out with this “sale” item, after having picked up only 1, and it rings up as regular price.  Upon questioning the cashier about it, the cashier informs me that you have to buy 2 of the same item to get that sale price.  Now how lame is that?  And no, this is not something I’ve noticed at just ONE store in this area….I’ve noticed it in a few different stores.  Tell me….is there something wrong with that scenario, or is it just me?

Is Busy-ness Overcrowding…?

…our lives?  I sat and pondered this thought the other day when I was sitting outside the eye doctor’s office, waiting for my Sister and her girls to get done inside.  As I watched the cars whiz by, hurrying to wherever they were going, I thought about how much has changed in people’s attitudes just in the last ten years or so.  When we moved into a small, nearby town ten years ago, people would actually wave at you and act friendly.  These days, it’s a rare thing for anyone, anywhere to wave at you.  I think part of this problem is due to the fact that people are trying to keep up with technology.  Unfortuneately, most people don’t realize that the human race will never be able to keep up with it.  I think we’d have a WHOLE lot better attitude towards the world and what it holds for us if more of us would stop and smell the roses, or stop by to chat with a neighbor without wanting something else in return.  If we could take life in a more laid back attitude, maybe people wouldn’t feel like the days are getting shorter and what they have to do keeps multiplying.
